Matama is a group of mountains in the Talamanca range
The name Matama was given by native Bri Bri indigenous to a group of mountains in the Talamanca range, the highest mountain of it is also called Matama. The owners of the Hotel decided to name it in honour to the majestic forest found in that place. The Hotel Matama is located few meters away from the Bonita and Portete Beaches. The visitor can enjoy a lush vegetation in 7 acres of ground with many trails, 1500 different tropical plants, flowers, a small lagoon with crocodiles and turtles and the best International and Caribbean cuisine.
Rodrigo Martin, the owner of this hotel, has been a name related to commerce, hospitality and Real Estate in Puerto Limon. He started in 1951 a business activity with cocoa bean exportation, latter a supermarket was created and ran until it was sold in late 70's. The Hotel was established in 1970.
